We are seeking to place this child within the UK. |
Introduction: |
Isabella was admitted to hospital three days after birth after contracting streptococcal meningitis which resulted in brain damage and cerebral palsy. This means that she will be developmentally delayed in the future, but given her age, the extent of this delay is still unknown. Feeling unable to care for her in the long term, in February 2008 Isabellas birth parents made the difficult decision to relinquish Isabella for adoption. |
| Isabella is voluntarily accommodated, s.20 of the Children Act, 1989. | ||
Character and personality |
| Isabella is a happy, lively and sociable little girl. She likes to chat and enjoys being the centre of attention and loves looking at herself in the mirror. Isabella loves being sang to, bath time and swimming. She also likes the cats and dogs which live in the foster home with her. | ||
Health |
| Isabella was fitted with a gastric tube in the summer which has made her feeding more comfortable. Prior to this she was being fed nasally. Isabella is not eating solids, and a video fluoroscopy is planned to ascertain if she could be fed solids in the near future. Isabella does experience spasms as a result of her cerebral palsy which can cause her pain and discomfort and she is on medication to manage this. She also takes medication for nausea and vomiting. She can have periods of uncontrollable crying when she appears to be in discomfort, and she can difficult to pacify at these times. This is being investigated, along with investigating her hearing and sight. | ||
Milestones |
| Isabella is gaining in height and weight which is in line with the 50th Centile. Isabella is fixing and following with her eyes and appears to be meeting her developmental milestones. She is also beginning to hold herself up and can roll onto one side and is trying to reach out and grab objects. Isabella has a good deal of input from the childrens therapy team, and will continue to do so in the future. | ||
Routine |
| Isabella has around three short naps of 15-20 minutes throughout the day and seems reluctant to sleep during the day, even though she can be very tired. She goes to bed at 10.30pm and will sleep through the night until 7.30-8am. Isabella still suffers from the occasional bad night or day, when she wakes up crying and is uneasy to settle, but these have become less frequent. | ||
Attachments |
| Isabella has a good relationship with her foster carers and their family. She shows signs of clinginess, but at other times she is also happy to be held by other people, perhaps as a result of a long stay in hospital. However, when unhappy, she will only be comforted by her carers. | ||
Contact |
| Isabellas birth parents (and sibling) would like to have yearly indirect contact with Isabella, including the exchange of photographs and gifts. | ||
