Introduction:

Sabina is a five year old child who has been looked after since March 2009 following lack of care and inconsistent parenting. She has been with her current foster carer throughout. Sabina is a beautiful, lively child of petite build and who is full of character. She was born prematurely and has been diagnosed with Global Development Delay. Sabina has made good progress since being in foster care. She loves and demands one to one attention and thoroughly enjoys being the centre of attention. Her foster carer has provided a very high level of stability and care with the support of her family and has helped Sabina to develop positive attachments. Sabina thrives with a consistent routine and understands clear instructions. She likes to be in charge of what is happening around her and she has a tendency to throw a tantrum if told not to do something. Whilst she can be boisterous and aggressive she also has a cheeky, fun side, mimicking adult behaviour, pulling faces and poses which can be very funny.

An energetic two parent adoptive/permanent foster family with no other children (or significantly older children) who can reflect Sabinas ethnic and cultural heritage. A single person could be considered if they had excellent family support. A family is needed who can understand Sabinas complex needs. There would need to be one significant person in the family who would be able to provide 1:1 consistent care, patience and lots of affection, attention and security. Sabina would require a family who have a regular routine, and who are able to give very clear instructions and explanations. A family who understand that there will always need to be professionals involved in her life and who will be able to take her to regular health appointments.

About Sabina

Sabina is growing in confidence and has made good progress since being in foster care. She likes to talk and sing and she can understand words in both English and Bengali. She can take herself to the toilet and clean her teeth with support as she loves playing with water. She can feed herself with a spoon and likes a wide range of foods. She sleeps throughout the night and bedtimes are not a problem. Sabina loves to play outdoors and especially enjoys jumping on the trampoline. She has recently started school and it is planned that she will attend a special school for children with severe to moderate learning disabilities. As a registered disabled child she will be entitled to ongoing support from the Disabled Childrens Team.
